Have you ever tried to put your key in your lock, only to have to wiggle and jiggle it to get it in? Annoying, huh? Well guess what? There’s a super easy fix for that! Go to your local discount store’s hardware section, or if you are lucky enough to still have a locally owned hardware store, go support them instead of the big guys. Get yourself some powdered graphite.

Open the tube. You may have to cut off the tip and/or poke a hole in the nozzle with a straight pin. Once you have done that, insert the tip of the tube into the lock and puff a little graphite into the lock.

Now, take that key and work it in and out of the lock several times. It won’t take long before the key goes in and out of the lock easily. Graphite is a dry lubricant and the particles act like little microscopic ball bearings, allowing your metal key to slide easily in the metal lock.

In a pinch, you can take a plain old number two pencil and generously coat the teeth of your key with the “lead” (which is really graphite) several times, inserting the key into the lock. That will work for a little while, but the powdered graphite will tend to last longer.
I bet you didn’t know it was so easy, huh? Fix that lock, and go make life DIY!
